IHSD SET TO PARTNER THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO MARK 2020 WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

IHSD SET TO PARTNER THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO MARK 2020 WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

The Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) participated in a zoom meeting on the 3rd of August, 2020 with other key development partners and principal stakeholders working in humanitarian services hosted by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to adopt a common plan of action towards the 2020 World Humanitarian Day.

Present at the zoom meeting were representatives of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), ECOWAS, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD), Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and a representative of the Civil Society Organization.

Dr. Prince Francis Origa who represented IHSD, commended the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for their forthrightness and effort in coordinating key stakeholders towards the success of this year’s event, while also acknowledging the works being done by United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Nigeria office in supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring intellectual competence in humanitarian response.

The meeting adopted the following:

1. A press conference slated on the 18th, August, 2020.

2. A virtual colloquium slated to hold on the 19th of August

3. A joint press release 

Partners were encouraged to engage in media appearances to raise awareness for the event.
