IHSD KICK-STARTS IMPLEMENTATION OF MAINSTREAMING THE CONCEPT OF HUMANITARIANISM AND VOLUNTEERISM INTO THE NYSC SCHEME

In a bid to foster the culture of Humanitarianism and Volunteerism among the Nigerian youths,   the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) kick-started the implementation of mainstreaming the concept of Humanitarianism and Volunteerism into the NYSC scheme today, Monday 31st May, 2021 with an in-camp orientation for Batch A Stream II Corps members in six (6) pilot states across the nation.

The project which is designed to produce highly skilled Nigerian youths amongst young graduates who will be proficient and professional in Humanitarian Services and NGO Management was piloted in Lagos, Gombe, Plateau, Rivers, Abia states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Reacting to the approval of partnership by the Director General of the NYSC recently, IHSD Registrar, Dr. Prince Francis Origa expressed optimism over the partnership and described it as timely. According to him, this partnership will help the Corps members build a career in the development sector while at the same time, bring about national development cum nation building.

“We wish to first and foremost express our profound gratitude to your esteem office for the approval of our proposed partnership between IHSD and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in promoting intellectual capacity and competencies among Corps members in humanitarian services and volunteerism thus helping them to build a rewarding career in the non-profit and development sector of the economy.

 

“By this partnership, we hope that national development cum nation building would be accelerated through the culture of humanitarianism and volunteerism”, Dr. Francis stated.

Consequently across the six pilot states today, selected members of the Institute simultaneously conducted a general sensitization of Corps members on Volunteerism and Humanitarianism. Among those who represented the Institute at the NYSC orientation camps in the six pilot states includes Dr. Humanitarian Ngozi Ukeje and Amb. Distinguished Humanitarian Olubunmi Fagbuyiro (FIHSD) for the FCT; Amb. Distinguished Humanitarian James Mercy Obatunmibi (FIHSD), Distinguished Humanitarian Christiana Fehintoluwa (FIHSD) and Humanitarian Noredia Douglas Jombo for Lagos State; Barr. Humanitarian Veronica Ogbozor and Amb. Humanitarian Ati-Makpah Victoria for River State; Distinguished Humanitarian Armstrong Agatsa for Plateau state; while Distinguished Humanitarian Naphtali Hadu Ligari (FIHSD), Humanitarian Gambo Hassan Bissu and Humanitarian Thomas Sunday Abah represented the Institute at the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe state.
