Specialized Advanced Courses
The Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD), Nigeria, announces its 2022 Advanced Specialized Certificate Programme in the following fields:
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Institute is registered in Nigeria and has the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Justice. Our training curriculum was developed in partnership with the Abia State University while our programs are recognized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Nigeria. The Institute was formerly launched on 12th August, 2010 where the certificate was presented by His Excellency, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, CFR, former Common Wealth Secretary General who represented the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The Chairman of the Institute’s Governing Council is His Excellency, Senator (Gen.) Ike Nwachukwu, mni, CFR, GCMG who succeeded the late Pioneer President-His Excellency Amb. Segun Olusola OFR.
IHSD is the Nigeria coordinating body and office of the Chair for the ‘Hope for Children’ CRC Policy Center in Cyprus with the mandate of promoting the UN Convention on the rights and protection of the Child.
Because of the confidence and trust IHSD has been able to build over the years in its working relationship with relevant organizations, Federal Government Ministries and Agencies at the Presidency, today we have developed even stronger partnership with most of these organizations because of our consistency in the delivery of our training.
Since 2016, the National Boundary Commission (The Presidency) has remained our host-partner for the Abuja Batch ‘A’ Class of every year, usually every May.
The Presidency – National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) hosted the 2018 batch ‘B’ of our Proficiency-Professional Certificate Course in Humanitarian Services; Essentials and Dynamics of NGO Management, Advocacy, Community Needs Assessment, Community Mobilization, Fundraising &Proposal Writing, and Conflict Resolution using the UN Diplomatic Tracks, held 16th-19th of October,2018 at NEMA headquarters in Abuja. The closing ceremony which featured award presentation to selected Nigerians was graced by the African Union-ECOSOCC Country Representative and Nigerian former Ambassador to Guinea among others.
The following government establishments have benefited from our training program which has improved the capacities of their staff: Federal Ministry of Education (NGO Unit), Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, National Emergency Management Agency, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants & Internally Displaced Persons, National Boundary Commission, and Border Communities Development Agency and the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency; including other non-governmental organizations such as Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation and the Victims Support Fund among others. So far, we have conducted a total of 71 Sets of training under the Proficiency Professional Certificate Course and have graduated a total of 5,120 persons as certified humanitarian practitioners with functional Alumni Association inaugurated.
IHSD training is more than just a capacity building, apart from just awarding the proficiency certificate which the Federal Ministry of Education approved, we engage participants in various participatory and individual rigorous learning processes using multi-dimensional methodologies in delivering our carefully researched topics which are not commonly found in schools and consulting firms.
There are endless testimonies from our graduates who are doing very well either in their own private NGOs or with International Development Agencies both within and outside Nigeria. The Institute shall soon be launching a National Diploma Program in Humanitarian Studies &Social Development which students will be admitted through JAMB for a-two-years period to study all aspect of humanitarianism and development issues.
