HONORARY HUMANITARIAN AMBASSADORS – GOLD (ZONAL LEVEL)
These positions are not restricted based on profession or field of studies as the selection committee is more interested in the humanitarian passion, experiences, achievements, result oriented and community development commitment of applicants including willingness to give time and material resource to meet set targets. These could be celebrities or eminent persons whose fame may spread beyond national boundaries. However, we strongly encourage both men and women who are social entrepreneurs, past serving political leaders without bias for any party sentiment, public figures; Nollywood, music, sports, comedy stars and media icons, legal practitioners, philanthropists, human rights activists and senior public servants, senior lecturers and others to apply. Selected applicants for this category would be expected to head and operate within the 6 geopolitical zones of the federation; embarking on national and transnational assignments of using the position and personal leadership charisma to promote humanitarianism, individual’s rights, children’s rights and peace for all. The holder of this position shall be referred to as a ‘Special Envoy’ who is to supervise all other Ambassadors while synergizing with stakeholders including government at zonal and national levels to ensure resource mobilization and partnership with results ensuring that the culture of humanitarianism and peace education is promoted to the highest level. Each geopolitical zone will have two such individuals serving their area.
Eligibility
- Candidates must be between the ages of 35 – 60 years
- Must be a Nigerian Citizen
- Must have passion for humanitarian services (peace, education, children/individual’s rights, advocacy and welfarism).
- Must have at least 7 years proven track records and experience in humanitarian services particularly in volunteerism, community development, social welfare services; heath care, human rights, child’s rights advocacy, gender issues, peace and conflict resolution among others.
- Must be a person without questionable characters and a detribalized Nigerian ready to associate with all and sundries irrespective of religion, ethnic or political affiliation.
- Must be a highly disciplined leader that can tolerate and accommodate issues and people; a person of integrity, transparent with all issues with good sense of humor, self-control, tact and diplomacy even in the face of tensions and pressures.
- Must be willing to give of his or her time to join hands with the international community, IHSD, government, development partners and other stakeholders in promoting certain humanitarian values in Nigeria through advocacy visit, and contribution of creative ideas, (Time, Talent and Treasures).
- Must be gainfully employed and occupy a top management position that allows flexibility of time for other extra activities, or an entrepreneur or one who heads a personal organization or NGO.
- Must be a known leader or influential figure within the zone, state, local or national level and/or must be a charismatic leader whose name, experience, contact, resources or position has the capability of positively influencing certain persons or promoting certain humanitarian issues thus achieving the set objectives.
- Must understand humanitarian issues and challenges in Nigeria vis-à-vis the political dynamics or governance system with the passion to make a change in certain policies or bring about change in people’s attitudes.
- Must hold a Bachelor Degree with 8- 10 years’ experience in public service/administration; Master’s Degree or PhD will be an added advantage. Other Professional Training and Certificates would be considered. There are 12 positions (2 Rep in each zone).

BENEFITS TO ALL AMBASSADORS AND SPECIAL ENVOYS
- All shortlisted Honorary Ambassadors/Special Envoys shall be given letter of appointment/designation, customized insignia and special plate numbers for vehicles; certificate and identity card issued by the Institute’s Governing Council and partners.
- The position holders would receive automatic Fellowship Certification and Gold Medal as Distinguished Humanitarian Fellows of IHSD while also serving as honorary consultants on peace education, child’s rights and protection advocates; and even after serving out the term, the Fellowship position shall remain for life in accordance with IHSD laws.
- The position bearers would be accorded international recognition by ‘Hope for Children’ CRC Policy Center in Cyprus, the UN and other partnering agencies and government in the vanguard of humanitarianism.
- Opportunities for national and international travels for humanitarian gathering and exchange programmes; making the voice heard and counts.
- The position will serve as a platform to leverage on for self-improvement, social status enhancement and opportunity to relate with key actors in the humanitarian world while receiving recognition as a worthy stakeholder.
- Humanitarian Merit Award will be awarded to Ambassador who has performed creditably.
- Recognition letter/certificate from Hope for Children (CRC Policy Center) in Cyprus will be awarded to Ambassador as Child’s Protection Advocate; promoting the UN Convention on the rights of the child.

For applicants of Honorary Humanitarian Ambassadors – Gold (Special Envoys), kindly Include in your submission, a photo portrait, Letter of recommendation from a former or serving Federal Permanent Secretary, Commissioner, Judges, Justices, Minster, First Class Traditional Rulers or a Professor or any other Citizen of renowned accomplishments. The Ambassadors-Silver/Bronze should submit the same requirements as above but with recommendation letter from such personalities at the state level, while the Ambassadors-Diamond should submit same requirements with recommendation letter from the Head of their Institution, Dean of Students Affairs or Head of Department (HOD).

Selected candidates will be inducted as fellows and presented to the public on October 13, 2021 at the Annual Humanitarian Public Lecture/ Award to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction in Abuja. This ceremony would be conducted in the presence of top Government Official and International Agencies. All selected candidates will also be expected to attend their orientation and training when announced.
