HUMANITARIAN VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS/SPECIAL ENVOYS
As part of our mandate of promoting the culture of humanitarianism and volunteerism as value system in Nigeria and the need to protect the rights of the African Child, and ensure sustainable peace and development; the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in collaboration with the Office of the Nigerian Chair-‘Hope for Children’ UNCRC Policy Center in Cyprus, and the African Union-ECOSOCC, Nigeria Office; with the endorsement of the Nigerian National Volunteers Service-Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (Presidency), United Nations Institute for Training & Research (UNITAR), Nigeria and the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State (Special Adviser to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs) and other partners, is inviting credible and suitably qualified individuals to apply and subsequently upon selection occupy the positions of Honorary Humanitarian-Volunteer Ambassadors/Special Envoys. Each position is for a period of two years though renewable upon satisfactory performance with the exception of the Diamond (higher institution’s) ambassadors.
This project is aimed at promoting and instilling the spirit cum culture of humanitarianism and volunteerism in Nigeria by actively supporting and engaging the government, schools, communities and relevant stakeholders to uphold humanitarian value system and human dignity. Every Ambassador would double as child’s protection advocate.
Goal:
The goal of this project is targeted at promoting and instilling the spirit cum culture of humanitarianism and volunteerism in Nigeria by creating role-models to engage public participation.
Objectives
- To increase education, information and awareness on humanitarianism and volunteerism in every state in Nigeria.
- To mobilize, recruit and engage credible humanitarian-spirited individuals who will serve as humanitarian role-models, honorary ambassadors and child’s protection advocates.
- To advocate for the increase in government political-will and stakeholder’s and public participation in humanitarianism, volunteerism and child’s protection.

GENERAL MANDATE /RESPONSIBILITIES
OF ALL HONORARY AMBASSADORS & SPECIAL ENVOYS
- The holders of these positions shall have the mandate of liaison with the federal, state and/or local government, higher institutions, relevant government authorities and stakeholders on humanitarian issues depending on the scope of primary assignment; carry out advocacy to change certain negative status-quo contrary to the culture of humanitarianism and peace; assist in awareness creation and capacity enhancement at all levels; highlight and bring burning humanitarian issues to fore while supporting the campaign for the promotion of human dignity.
- Complement and collaborate with the government and relevant institutional authorities within the place of assignment to ensure that high ethical standard, political-will and humanitarian values are upheld and promoted.
- Advise and support relevant authorities and communities within the place of assignment in carrying out humanitarian activities of all-inclusiveness; advocate for the creation of the office for the coordination of humanitarian and peace affairs in every state and zones of the federation, and ensuring the establishment of humanitarian and peace education clubs in all tertiary institutions across the country working together with other team members of IHSD and partners.
- Promote volunteerism, peace education, child’s rights in line with the United Nations convention on the protection of the rights of the child; advancing the course of volunteerism and humanitarianism in general in line with the mandate of IHSD in partnership with ‘Hope for Children’ CRC policy center in Cyprus.
- Assist in providing relevant contacts, resource mobilization, information and innovative ideas leading to change in policy and attitudes; support IHSD and partners in delivering frame work of action.
- Act as an advocate for the defense of children and peace while serving as honorary advisor on humanitarianism in general.
BENEFITS TO ALL AMBASSADORS AND SPECIAL ENVOYS
- All shortlisted Honorary Ambassadors/Special Envoys shall be given letter of appointment/designation, customized insignia and special plate numbers for vehicles; certificate and identity card issued by the Institute’s Governing Council and partners.
- The position holders would receive automatic Fellowship Certification and Gold Medal as Distinguished Humanitarian Fellows of IHSD while also serving as honorary consultants on peace education, child’s rights and protection advocates; and even after serving out the term, the Fellowship position shall remain for life in accordance with IHSD laws.
- The position bearers would be accorded international recognition by ‘Hope for Children’ CRC Policy Center in Cyprus, the UN and other partnering agencies and government in the vanguard of humanitarianism.
- Opportunities for national and international travels for humanitarian gathering and exchange programmes; making the voice heard and counts.
- The position will serve as a platform to leverage on for self-improvement, social status enhancement and opportunity to relate with key actors in the humanitarian world while receiving recognition as a worthy stakeholder.
- Humanitarian Merit Award will be awarded to Ambassador who has performed creditably.
- Recognition letter/certificate from Hope for Children (CRC Policy Center) in Cyprus will be awarded to Ambassador as Child’s Protection Advocate; promoting the UN Convention on the rights of the child.

- For applicants of Honorary Humanitarian Ambassadors – Gold (Special Envoys), kindly Include in your submission, a photo portrait, Letter of recommendation from a former or serving Federal Permanent Secretary, Commissioner, Judges, Justices, Minster, First Class Traditional Rulers or a Professor or any other Citizen of renowned accomplishments. The Ambassadors-Silver/Bronze should submit the same requirements as above but with recommendation letter from such personalities at the state level, while the Ambassadors-Diamond should submit same requirements with recommendation letter from the Head of their Institution, Dean of Students Affairs or Head of Department (HOD).
- Include a letter of motivation (between 200-250 words) stating your reason for applying and why you feel you are qualified for the position and what you intend to bring onboard as well as burning humanitarian issues you wish to use your position address during your one-year of service.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- At the time of submission of nominations for award, the award category under which the submission is to be considered may be indicated. However, it would be prerogative of the review committee to decide the category to which a given submission can be treated for the purpose of selection for the award.
- Nominations received after last date will not be accepted under any circumstances. Incomplete submissions not complying with the directions or guidelines detailed herein would not be considered.
- Applicant who sends in form and documents without evidence of payment or the indication of VAN number would be summarily rejected.
