BECOME A CERTIFIED HUMANITARIAN AND NGO MANAGER BY APPLYING FOR IHSD PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE COURSES FOR 2021 PROGRAMS
The Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) announces its training programs for the year 2021 as follows:
- 4 days Proficiency Certificate Course in Humanitarian Services and NGO Management Dynamics.
- 1 Month (4 weekends, Saturdays only); Proficiency Certificate Course in Humanitarian Services/NGO Mgt.
GOAL AND OBJECTIVE
The course is designed to enhance professionalism and equip participants with the necessary skills in tandem with global best practices and international standard in the management of humanitarian and non-profit programmes.
To add value cum intellectual direction to the field of non-profit and humanitarian programs through qualitative training thereby harnessing the potentials and increasing efficiency in the sector.
AREAS TO BE COVERED (COURSE CONTENTS)
1. Humanitarian Services-NGO Management
- Introduction to Non – Profit/Humanitarian Organization; Essentials and Dynamics of Running an NGO; Typology and Classifications, How to Distinguish Foundation and Association from Other NGOs; Formation And Registration.
- Structures of an NGO: Managing Board of Trustees, Human Resource /Administrative Structure and Staffing in NGO.
- Advocacy: Advocacy Issues, Developing Advocacy Messages, Using Advocacy to Influence Policies and Effect Social Change, Advocacy in Child’s Rights and Protection.
- Community Mobilization and Participation.
- How to Develop Work Plan / Strategic Action Plan.
2. Fundraising and Grant Proposal Writing for Sustainability
- Introduction to Fundraising
- Methods and Options in Fundraising
- Strategies To Succeeding In Your Fundraising
- Fundamental Facts You Need To Know
- Justifying the Needs Assessment/Community Needs Appraisal with M & E Component.
- Introduction To Proposal Writing and Guidelines
WHO CAN APPLY?
- Heads and officers of NGOs, CSOs, CBOs, Foundations, Associations including religious organizations and groups concerned about the welfare of children, youth and women and those advancing social development.
- Individual Development Consultants, Students and Workers in the government and private sectors who wish to enhance their skills and build a career in development/humanitarian sector.
- However, under-Graduates or serving Youth Corps Members may also apply as long as they have passion for humanitarianism and interest in the development sector, and can communicate well in English.
QUALIFICATION
- Applicants in this program are expected to have attended other formal higher education with certificates obtained. Applicant must prove that they understand and can communicate very well in English.
- Individual development consultants, students and workers in the government and private sectors who wish to enhance their skills and build a career in development/humanitarian sector.
- However, under-graduates or serving youth corps members may also apply as long as they have passion for humanitarianism and interest in the development sector, and can communicate well in English.

REGISTRATION, PAYMENT AND VENUE FOR THE ONE MONTH (WEEKEND CLASSES)
Candidates seeking to enroll into the one-month (weekend) training program should read the below information carefully:
- The weekend classes would run only in our Abuja office in Gwarinpa and other designated centers within Abuja alone, and shall run every Saturdays between 12:30pm to 5pm. In each quarter of the year, we would conduct a-one-month weekend program.
- The registration and payment should be done within the first month to the 15th day of the second month of each quarter while the class would commence by the first Saturday of the last month of each quarter.
- For the first quarter of 2020, registration and payment of N52,000 would be expected to be concluded by February 15th while the class will commence by first Saturday of march. For second quarter, the class starts by first Saturday in October and registration and payment ends in September 20th.

All online applications should be completed one-month before the date of training while payment should be completed at least two weeks before the commencement of each of the training for the various centers. Manual registration by text or email can be accepted from late applicants (a week to the training) with extra ₦3000 fee for late registration. However, seat reservation is based on first come, first served. Safer to pay early!

IHSD reserves the right to adjust dates of training should any eventuality arise or public holidays fall within the set dates.
The Institute does not refund money paid for training when candidate fails to attend a registered class without a formal notice in writing at least two weeks to the program’s date.
However, a candidate can write to swap to another center in case of relocation or can defer admission to attend another batch.

Proficiency Certificate shall be issued upon satisfactory completion of the program by Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
The Institute has always enjoyed the presence of the Federal Ministry of Education at every closing ceremony of Abuja Class where the Ministry joins other stakeholders and partners of the Institute in presenting certificate to the graduates..
Certificate of participation will be awarded to those who did not complete the entire course contents/class works.
Special awards will be given to participants that graduate with distinction including those with best behaviors.
Professional Membership Certificate will be awarded upon graduation to those who paid their membership fee.
The Institute has always enjoyed the presence of the Federal Ministry of Education at every closing ceremony of Abuja Class where the Ministry joins other stakeholders and partners of the Institute in presenting certificate to the graduates..

Applicants are encouraged to apply and pay earlier as we have a stipulated number of participants that must be accommodated in each class, therefore priority will be accorded to the first numbers of participants that pay to make up the required numbers for the class.
Candidate who wish to pay at the training venue will have to pay extra 5000 naira, late entry fee.
Transcripts will only be issued to those who complete their one-month internship, field or volunteering assignment; which means that a candidate may be assigned to a particular organization for a-one-month field experience.
A candidate may choose to use his or her present workplace as a platform to step down the knowledge on others or carry out the said field work as long as such platform is relevant to the candidate’s field of training. A candidate who took part in this field or volunteering assignment must submit a written report or research paper and a letter from the head of the organization where candidate has been engaged in such assignment to the Institute’s Registrar.
There would be membership induction for new members during the closing/graduation day of each class, except for classes conducted few days or weeks to the annual humanitarian public lecture.

Entry Requirements
Five Credit Passes at not more than two sittings {or its equivalent} in SSCE / O’ level, GCE, NABTEB, TCII II, NECO. One of the credit passes shall be in English Language. Evidence of previous practical experience in Social work would be an advantage.
